Majority 'saving whatever they can'

February 09, 2012

Most people are doing their best to boost their savings, according to the latest research from AA Financial Services.

Times may be hard, but it seems most Britons are doing their best to save whatever money they can.

Research from AA Financial Services suggests that two-thirds of people are saving their spare cash whenever possible, while levels of personal debt dropped in December.

The survey of 2,000 UK adults also revealed that three-fifths of Britons keep their savings in a high-street account, although many are switching to non-bank providers and online accounts.

Mark Huggins, director of AA Financial Services, said: "Our findings suggest that while people are worried about taking on debt and are trying to reduce it, they are also still doing their best to maintain a savings habit.

"People are also increasingly confident about using online savings accounts. Almost a quarter say they operate a savings account from a computer, compared with just 13 per cent last year."

Online banking has made financial management much easier for many people, but recent research from esure Home Insurance highlights the importance of good security measures.

The insurer found that 76 per cent of Britons use the same password for several purposes, including email, social media sites, online banking and internet shopping.
