Study suggests Botox is effective for the treatment of heel pain

Research has indicated Botox may be good for the treatment of heel pain
A study carried out in Mexico has indicated that Botox may be more effective for the treatment of heel pain - known as plantar fasciitis - than steroids.
Plantar fasciitis occurs when a band of tissue in the heel becomes damaged and thickens, with patients often finding symptoms are most painful when trying to move after a long period of rest.
New research, published in the journal Foot & Ankle International, identified better outcomes in Botox-treated patients than those on steroids.
Some 36 participants were involved in the study and divided into two groups, with both receiving one type of treatment combined with a series of physical exercises to boost recovery.
In the early stages of the trial, both groups appeared to recover at the same rate, however those treated with Botox saw an acceleration in their recovery at six months compared to those on steroids.
Study author Dr Carlos Acosta-Olivo said that while Botox was more efficient for plantar fasciitis recovery, stretching exercises were also an important component of recuperation.
