Private medical insurance 'likely to grow in popularity'
November 29, 2010
Quicker treatment is just one benefit of private medical insurance.
More people in Britain are set to take out private medical insurance as financial pressures grow on the NHS.
This is according to an article in the Daily Telegraph, which explained "renewed interest" in the cover is expected as a result of more low-priority cases being referred to private hospitals by GPs in the future because of the NHS looking to make efficiency savings of £20 billion by 2014.
The report said private cover offers several advantages to policyholders, especially with waiting lists likely to grow in the next few years.
"Private medical insurance can allow you to jump the queue, as a policy enables you to get a private consultation - after a referral from your GP - and then treatment in a hospital of your choice," the advice piece noted.
According to another recent article published by the newspaper, it is important to fully research different private medical insurance policies before committing to a purchase, as plans will vary between providers.
