Private medical insurance uptake 'increasing in Warrington'
December 30, 2010
Private medical insurance is proving useful for many people living in the Warrington area.
A greater number of people in the Warrington area are making use of private medical insurance to have operations that are not available to them on the NHS.
According to the Warrington Guardian, the decision by the local health service to temporarily suspend all but the most urgent referrals has resulted in an increase in work for the private Spire Cheshire Hospital.
Geoff Hutchinson, consultant general surgeon at the facility, said people are not willing to compromise their health as the finite resources of the NHS are put to the test.
"I expect that's why I've seen an increase in the number of patients who a year ago would have had treatment on the NHS but who now are … using their private medical insurance," he added.
Earlier this week, mother-of-two Amanda Davis-Baird told the Daily Mail having a private consultation rather than waiting for her NHS appointment helped to save her life after she contracted pancreatic cancer.
